I'm very new to Directory Opus and still finding my way around...
When I type a forward slash (/) in a file display it opens up a FAYT text field in "Go" mode. This go mode doesn't seem to be mentioned in the documentation and, within the FAYT preferences, I cannot see it allocated an activation key. Any idea how I use this go mode? I thought I could use it to navigate the same way as the Location field in the location toolbar (i.e. navigate straight to an alias or file collection) but it doesn't seem to behave the same.
There also appears to be an "Error" mode in the FAYT preferences without any assignable activation key (and I haven't figured out how to activate the mode). What does that do?
I think Abr is confused about what you were asking, so his answer might confuse you further.
The Find as you Type field's Go mode is for going to paths. As you thought, it is (more or less) exactly the same as typing paths into the location field. It does not have or need an activation key because it is activated automatically whenever you type something that looks like a path.
You say it doesn't seem to behave the same as the location field; can you give some examples?
The error 'mode' is just the colour that the FAYT field turns when you've typed something into Find mode that cannot be found.
Thanks Leo, you are correct in thinking what I was asking.
I think the reason why I was saying it wasn't working like the location bar was because I wans't using it correctly.
For example, to get to a collection called coll://TechManuals I thought you first had to press the / key to get it into go mode followed by the collection name (so /coll://TechManuals). This produced a folder reading error. What I have discovered, as you mention, is that if you just start typing coll:// (without the preceding forward slash) it switches automatically from find mode to go mode as soon as it sees the coll:// prefix. In short don't bother trying to get it into go mode, just start typing a path location and if it happens to be a go location it will automatically switch, otherwise it will stay in find mode. Is that about right?
