I use find as you type very often.
I never used find as you type popup at the bottom (in version 9 it was possible to disable it), I just searched like in Windows Explorer. In DOpus 10 the behavior has changed, though. Now it always displays this popup at bottom which prevents me from using arrow keys immediately after typing file name. Changing "close timeout" to 1 doesn't help much - I still have to wait this 1 sec. (Which on the other hand is sometimes too less to think about command to type - after hitting "greater than", but I can prevent popup from disappearing by pressing right arrow key.)
Is it possible to back to previous behavior, ie. "don't use find as you type popup"?
You can just push Esc (or click anywhere outside it) to close the FAYT box.
Presumably we're talking about icon/list/thumbnails/tiles modes and the left/right arrows, since the up/down arrows should continue to work even when the FAYT box is active.
like daroc, I'm interested in knowing how to change this to behave exactly like the WinExplorer.
Which means when typing a letter like "W", the second time the cursor would jump to the next file starting with "W", instead of searching for "WW".
thanks
ingwer for typing the same first character going to the next entry see this post: [url]Find as you type based on first letter of filenames]
thanks sdct989, works now as expected.

No, what I'm asking about is something different. It's not about searching for "ww" or second file starting with "w", but about popup box blocking left/right arrows. Pressing ESC is always one more key to press.
What is more, this popup box also hides (appears in front of) a file at bottom while in list mode, so sometimes I can't see the next file after selected one.
I just want to get rid of that popup.
Bump. I find this so annoying that I have to always have to push "Esc" to close the FAYT field if I want to immediately be able to use the arrow keys - that I have avoided upgrading to Dopus10 because of this. +1 to bring "hidden FAYT" back to Dopus10 so that user can type start of directory name and use arrow keys immediately - without having any kind of box show up on bottom of screen.
This is the option to have FAYT in hidden mode in Dopus9 (which Dopus10 is missing):
You can use the up/down arrows immediately, which makes it a non-issue in Details & Power modes.
Pushing Esc after typing, to move left/right in Thumbnails & List modes, does not seem that great an ordeal to me (once you're used to it), but maybe we can add an option for the FAYT field to ignore the left/right arrows when in "find" mode for people who want that.
I don't think removing the field entirely would be a good idea as it is useful for far more than just finding files. e.g. You can use it to navigate to folders (where you most definitely do want to see what you're typing and what's being auto-completed, and do want to be able to edit what you're typing using the arrow keys) or run Windows Search queries (again, you want to be able to edit those).
The current beta (10.5.0.5) changes this - now all cursor keys by default will go through to the file display when the FAYT is in 'find' mode. So you can use left/right cursor keys to change the selection in list/thumbnails mode without having to close the FAYT first.
