Using DOpus v10.0.4.0.4448.x86 on Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. I have DOpus set to not open any listers on startup. Every time after a reboot and re-login, I do get the DOpus icon in the system tray as expected. However, when I double-click the icon to open my first (default) lister, I get one that is mostly blank. See the attachment with "DOpus_10_0_4_first_lister_opened.jpg" for its filename. Without changing any settings or clicking on anything else, simply double-clicking on the system tray icon again to create a second lister, I get one that is populated with a lot more items. See the attachment with "DOpus_10_0_4_second_and_after_lister_opened.jpg" for its filename. This second lister is correct, and every lister after that I open is populated properly like the second one. This is repeatable every time. Why is the first lister mostly blank?
If you double-click the Desktop item in the folder tree or (possibly depending on Folder Tree settings) navigate or refresh the file display, does the tree the show everything?
I expect that the first time Opus tries to populate the tree after a rebooting, it takes so long that Opus gives up waiting. But after that first time the details are cached by Windows so the problem stops occurring. The number of mapped network drives is probably a factor; maybe it takes a while for them to all be established and ready after the reboot?
When I double-click the Desktop item in the folder tree, no the tree does not show everything. See "DOPUS_10_0_4_Desktop_folder_expanded.jpg"
In the tree, the Computer folder appears to already be pre-expanded with nothing under it at all in the tree. Though the right side of the screen does show my available mapped drives. See "DOPUS_10_0_4_Computer_folder_expanded.jpg"
It does not appear to matter how long I wait for DOpus to gather details from Windows. I just rebooted again. This time I opened Windows Explorer first before I opened any listers at all in DOpus. Windows Explorer shows everything including all of my readily available drive mappings. When I opened the first lister in DOpus, it was again mostly empty like the first screenshot I posted. The second and subsequent listers are fully populated again.
In the very first screenshot, the lister is showing Computer. In the second screenshot, it's showing C:.
Is that how they both opened, showing those folders, or is it just because you changed folders before taking one of the screenshots?
That is exactly how they opened all on their own without me clicking on anything else.
Is Preferences / Launching Opus / Default Lister / Update Default Lister automatically when closing a Lister on?
If it is on, please try turning it off and then see if you then get consistent results (or at least always the same initial folder, even if the tree is still not populating) when opening windows.
That preference was turned on. I turned it off, rebooted and tried again. I got the exact same results as previous screenshots.
Thanks.
So you're opening Opus via the tray icon (i.e. the tiny icon next to the clock on the right of the taskbar) both times, and getting a different result?
Could you create a config backup (Settings -> Backup and Restore) and send it to me via a private message? I'll see if I can reproduce what you're seeing when using the same configuration.
Sent. Sorry for the delay.
Thanks!
I didn't get a chance to look at it today, but I'll load it up tomorrow and see what I can find.
I've had a look at the config and it seems fine to me. Doesn't cause any problems on my test machine.
I'd say the most likely issue is that the first time the Opus folder tree tries to enumerate the Computer folder it's just taking too long and the window gives up waiting.
Try changing your Single Maximized layout (the one which opens when the tray icon is double-clicked) so that it starts in Desktop, or any folder that isn't below Computer, to see if that helps avoid the problem. If it does then it at least supports my theory. (OTOH, if it doesn't then my theory might be wrong.)
I set my Single Maximized to start on the Desktop and rebooted the machine. After that, it did open on the desktop, and when I clicked on the Computer folder, it appears that all of the mapped drives are present. So, why does this simple change make this difference? DOpus 9 did not have this problem on the same machine. Why does Dopus 10? This is annoying, and I want it to work like DOpus 9 did.
Opus 9 would have waited forever for the tree to populate, which could mean a long delay. Opus 10 builds the tree asynchonrously and gives up waiting after a while.
I think that's the difference, at least. It's difficult to be completely sure without being able to reproduce what you're seeing, but I'm not sure we'd be able to without access to your actual machine.
Is there any way for me to change how long DOpus 10 waits for the tree build procedure??
Some of the Preferences options, e.g. Preferences / Folder Tree / Options / Automatically expand to current folder, may affect what happens. There's no way to change the wait explicitly, but changing the settings may mean the wait isn't needed at all.
Guess I'll just have to play with it a bit then. Thanks.
