Flat View affects columns width and adjustment

I very seldom use the 'Flat View' but when I do, I've notice that the columns freeze. You cannot adjust the width of them. And the columns at times have even minimized completely and then you cannot change their width.

I must be missing a setting or have something set wrong?

That is very likely determined by the folder format for Flat View:
