Folder background image changes randomly

Hi,

I'm really liking the custom color labels & facility to change the lister background image as I have samba shares set-up to several different machines and it helps me know which machine I'm on, thus avoiding confusion.

In preferences, Folder Formats, Default Formats,

I've set it up so that the default folder format - "custom" does not have any image set in the options tab

Local drives are set-up with local_image.jpg

and

Network Drives are set-up with network_image.jpg

This works ok 90% of the time on my local drives and about 60% of the time on the networked drives. When changing between directories on the networked drive, network_image.jpg sometimes randomly changes to local_image.jpg. I can't get it to change to the correct image by pressing F5, or by changing directories which is weird.

I thought it may be a speed issue, but I'm on gigabit LAN and the F5 fail seems to argue against this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Use the tooltip you get when hovering over the format lock icon (in the status bar) to see which formats are currently in play.

The more advanced of the folder format faqs has lots more detail.

Ahh! I was trying to remember the tooltip thing! thanks!

I changed the setting in pref, display, images, file display to "no image", so to help troubleshoot.

So now there is only the image setting in network & local drive mentioned earlier.

The tooltip shows:

local drive folder format - unknown
networked drive folder format - unknown

also now, there is no picture at all in some folders. In this case:

local drive folder format - default for local drives - content type images

networked drive folder format - default for networked drives - content type images

So, look at the folder formats named in the tooltip and see what they set for the images section.

ok. I think I see the issue now. The content-Type default format is set to which I set to none in order to let the local & network drive pictures take precedence. If I set this to , then obviously there is no image.

As I don't use a background image for content-types, is there a way to get the image to default to the default settings set in local & network drives, or is this a gotcha?

Try turning off the Images section altogether in the Content-Type format.

Awesome! thanks v much!!  I am a spoon for not spotting that. will blame it on tiredness!
