Folder format not triggering

I have style that opens a few tabs. One of the tabs contains folder with Folder format defined. But when I switch lister to that style, the directory gets Custom format, instead of the defined one.

How make the folder get the defined format?

X.

My guess is the style's formatting for the new tab overrides the saved folder format for that folder. In EDIT STYLES did you edit the format for the new tab to make it the same as your saved folder format?

Looks like style saves folder formats regardless of style settings, which is a bad thing. Folder formats should work independently.
It's hard to imagine a scenario, where one would like folder to be displayed differently just because it's a part of a style.

You might want a style which (for example) switches to thumbnails mode and turns on the viewer. The default Filmstrip style does just that.

After saving a style you can prevent it from applying its folder formats by editing it under Preferences - Listers - Styles.

Still, it's not a scenario where you want THE SAME directory to be presented in style in another way, than using folder format.

I want exactly opposite, and no settings change in Preferences - Listers - Styles seems to do that.

I can imagine situations where each of the combinations are used:
[ul][li]Apply format to current directory: A style used to view the current directory in thumbnails mode, with the viewer switched on as well.
[/li]
[li]Change directories and apply a format: A style which jumps to the Downloads folder and shows it in Details mode, sorted by date. (Where you don't always want Downloads sorted by date when you enter it via normal navigation.)
[/li]
[li]Change directories and use the directory's format, not the style's: A style which exists to put the lister in dual-display mode and show a certain pair of directories using their usual formats.[/li][/ul]

So you want to ensure that the style does apply a folder format to the directory? Either way, it's done by checking or unchecking the Format checkbox at the bottom of the Style editor, shown below.

Note: If you are creating a style which opens several folder tabs then it's a bit more complex. You have to click the Tabs... button and edit each tab.

Still it's manual setting, not Folder formats feature. In such way, everytime I change saved Folder format, I need to update all styles using it. It hardly can be called elegant.

It's another Folder formats pitfall. If I don't touch folder setting, why Folder formats is turned off? It should not!

It sounds like you don't want the style to apply its own format, and you want to define a format for the directory and have the style use that (and also have it used if you navigate to the directory normally, without using the style). Am I right? If so, just turn off the Format checkbox for the style completely.

You only have to turn off the style's format once. If the style's format is off then whatever format is associated with the directory will be used when the style changes to that directory. The style's format isn't used at all if it's turned off so there shouldn't be any need to update it.

It doesn't work this way.
Here are settings for a style:

If I change Folder format for one of the directories shown by that style (in tabs), after applying style, the folder format display for that directory is NOT updated.
Also, the folder format for this directory has NOT been edited in dialog displayed by Tabs button.

I've done some testing and can confirm there is a problem with folder tabs in styles. If tabs aren't used then everything seems fine, but if tabs are used then you seem to have the choice of a format saved in the style, or the default format, and can't make the style load the format saved for the directory.

I've reported this to GPSoftware.
