Hi all!
I have this problem: I have set a custom folder format for a specific music directory, so it displays the albums inside in thumbnails. But when I press Up, it goes to the parent directory showing thumbnails again. Is there a way to turn this off? I can't seem to find anything relevant in the prefs.
Thanks!
Maybe you have the format lock turned on for some reason? That would be the case, when the small lock icon
at the bottom right shows the "closed" position.
no I checked that it's open
Did you check the folder options of that upper folder? Maybe it´s set to show thumbnails?! Or the content type recognition could be active,
so if the prevalent file type in that folder is images, it would automatically set the thumbnails format, if that is the setting for the
images filetype. That´s the only reasons i could think of.

Is that happening even if you close the window, then open a new window, after saving the format change?
@abr: hmm this is weird, I just set up the parent folder to display also thumbnails, and now when I go to the grandparent folder it displays everything in power mode, so this it's fine!
@leo: But when I repeat the same experiment elsewhere, it has the same bad behaviour.
e.g. I go to F:. it's in power mode. I click thumbnails and it changes to thumbnails.
I then click on games (subdirectory), it still displays everything in thumbnails (unwanted behaviour). And the same happens for the opposite movement.
(I am not saving anything now, so when I close a lister and reopen one (it opens my default lister), everything is fine, still in power mode.
any ideas???
second experiment (really weird!!)
I just saved another grandson folder format, thumbnail display, using the option "save the current folder format: for this folder".
And now when I go to the grandparent, it displays everything in thumbnails !! (unwanted)
If you're in a folder and switch to thumbnails mode (via the thumbnails button on your toolbars/menus, not via folder formats), then change to another folder which uses the same format as the original, then you'll still be in thumbnails mode.
That's by design, to make it easier to look through a bunch of folders without having to keep changing the view mode back to what you want (or turn on the format lock) every time you change folders.
On the other hand, if you change to a folder using a different format, that format will be applied. So in your original example, what you described should only happen the first time you set up the new format, I think. (Unless there's something more complex going on.)
When in doubt, close and re-open the windows after making folder format changes, so you know you are seeing just the effects of those formats and not some left-over from the way they were set up using the old window.
ok so I ll just explicitly set my 'grandparents' directories to be displayed in power mode, throught the folder format mode.
thanks for your help!
You shouldn't need to do that, but that's one easy way to solve it if it doesn't seem to be doing what you want.
