In my folder tree, I have a folder with a symbol on the bottom left of the it.
What does this symbol indicate?
It seems this icon indicates that the folder is shared (network share or shared with other user accounts).
Right-clicking on it and selecting Share with > Stop sharing should get rid of the symbol.
Duh! I was thinking to deep or not not thinking at all.

Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced: win7_show_sharing_overlays lets you turn off the overlay if you don't want/need it.
(Option is named Win7_... because older versions of Windows always showed the overlays, then Win7 removed them, so we added an option to put them back. It applies to Win8 and Win10 as well.)
