I have already bought 3 shareware utilities that do stuff like this.
But they can be considered 'abandonware'; it seems that after an initial excited development start, the product is abandoned, and even repeated emails to the developer about support for new os'es is ignored.
2 of them don't work on Vista or 64 bit OS'es, the third does and in general works great, but when i contacted the developer repeatedly about a recent items list, I got no response to my emails.
So I'd love for GPsoft to add this functionality as part of Opus, esp. as Opus already hooks into the OS.
What I'm requesting is an icon or toolbar in Fileselector Dialogues that stores favorite folders and recently visited ones . Better still, it could integrate the folder color option and reflect this in file selectors as well.
I would hope that as it is part of Opus, it would continue to be developed as such and not be abandoned down the line.
Other functions that could be added are:
-open current folder in new lister
-add folder to collection
-jump to folder open in one of the listers
If the only thing missing from the one which works is the Recent Items list, couldn't you add the Recent folder to your bookmarks? It should be a bookmarkable folder like any other.
I don't think GPSoftware want to get into modifying the file-open/save dialogs. It can be quite a pain to get right, especially since individual programs modify them themselves and may clash with whatever Opus does.
I don't know if it helps (you probably have a lot more folder bookmarks than me) but on Vista you can drag & drop folders into the panel on the left of the standard file-open/save dialogs to change which items are displayed there. I find that does a good job but I only want/need my Desktop and root drive letters while you might find there isn't enough space for all the folders you want there.
Thanks for the reply.
Your first suggestion as a good one, and I will try that straight away!
I've already modified the panel, but in my kind of work (composition and sound design) there is a lot of to'ing and fro'ing between different folders, and the 4 or 5 on the side just don't cut it for that.
The utility I've got does a splendid job (Handyfolders), but like the other ones I've tried, it seems badly supported and emails to the developer are left unanswered.
I figured it could be part of Opus, but I can see your reasoning for them not wanting to include (even though I don't necessarily agree! )
