Free/Used disk space percentage display possible?

Is it possible to show percentages about the free/used disk space for each disk, in Tiles mode for example in My Computer window? Maybe Windows Explorer cannot allow for such a feature?

Within My Computer, you can have bar graphs showing the percentages, or numbers showing the actual values. You can't have numbers showing the percentages, though.

Thanks. Yes, it's the percentage numbers that I had in mind. Maybe it can be added as a mouse-over tooltip?

The reason for asking this, it to easily keep track for disks not to drop below a certain point - free space-wise.

Why does the exact percentage matter more than the actual amount of free space?

FWIW, the bars will turn red when there is less than 10% free space left.

It's mostly about leaving the disk enough space to 'breathe' and operate faster, fragmentation issues etc. that's why it's not about actual amount. 10% is good to know of course, although a bit critical. 20% is more like what I had in mind. Of course it's not hard to calculate but you know, readily-available numbers look nicer.

Still, it's an arbitrary percentage that you're choosing, so shouldn't the bar graphs be enough for spotting when things are too full?

I chose 20% based on a couple of defragmentation programs, that more or less indicate that amount as an optimal threshold. The bars will do fine though. If I get paranoid, I might just install a digital ruler...

In my opinion defragmentation is a bit overrated and for people which are happy looking at these nice graphs getting sorted more and more (I was one of them years ago!). Normally you won't notice a markable speedup after defragging a HDD, especially when enough free space is left.

If you want to have an "aha"-effect, then use a SSD as systemdrive, keep your data on a SATA and run defrag 1-2 times per year. Everything else is a waste of time.

Yep. Our hard drives are so fast now, that fragmentation isn´t much of an issue. You wouldn´t even notice much of a difference after.
That´s why i don´t care defragging my disks anymore. The SSD i use isn´t supposed to be defragged anyway, so i very
rarely run defrags on my conventional disk.
