FTP and SOCKS Proxy

hello...
I'm having issues connection to an FTP site over SOCKS. I dont have the advanced FTP.

Im using PuTTY to create the tunnel over SSH,
I'm FW'ing local port 3000, dynamic destination.

I test this using a web browser and it works fine.

In Dopus.
I set connect FTP Via Proxy
Select SOCKS5,
Host is 127.0.0.1
port is 3000

The i set up my FTP (which is running on the box im connecting to).
host 127.0.0.1
port:21

Thing is every time I try to connect I get the error.
"invalid PROXY name or address: SOCKS protocol error"

has anyone tested this and got it working?

I'm afraid it is not possible to provide assistance for proxies etc. You need to talk to your system admin for the correct settings.

Normally you do not need to use such proxies etc. Select PASV (Passive) mode and you can get an FTP session behind most correctly set up routers.

I get the whole "we dont support your proxy".

But, given that other apps are working i see this as a "how do i config Dopus" issue.

The FTP site is not public so it need to go through the tunnel.

how can this be a valid error "invalid PROXY name or address: SOCKS protocol error"?

Sorry I have no idea why it does not work for you.

We do not and will not provide support for any proxy settings. It's not an Opus issue and outside what we can support.

Talk to the proxy developers, or your AntiSpyware vendors or Microsoft or Zone Alarm or any of the many vendors that are involved in a proxy server on your machine.

You can (and have?) already been discussing this with me privately through an official support request. That's all we can provide for you.

wowbagger, I'm having a look at this as I get the same problem with PuTTY. I'll unlock the thread when I have more information.

Well, DOpus really SUCKS on SOCKS Protocol.
and thats shame for a good file manager. look at response. even their replay is not Amigaian style.

I have a valid socks proxy. which I build with same way as first guy said!
I can connect to any ftp by using Cuteftp and socks made of ssh and tuneler.so my proxy is valid and it works.

look like DOpus socks is a null function! and without checking my socks proxy, it simply say Invalid PROXY name or address: SOCKS Protocol Error!!

So now what?
I have to stop using Dopus and Move back to use Cuteftp which works great.

I have another problem with Dopus too. that is too dificult to nevigate when you open too many tabs! you need click on right arow or left arrow to find wanted tab amoung other tabs.solution is simple!. it should break more tabs to more rows like what multi tab addone do in firefox! look like DOpus programers never used the directory opus in real situation!

Maybe time is I create a free and open source clone of DirectorOpus!haha

Hello everybody and great Dopus team, please accept my apologize for my last post. I was just very sad! you know is hard living without Dopus! that is true. I love Dopus. that remaind me good amiga days!.

Well just let you know. I solved above problem with funny way. now I can connect to any ftp,sftp.ssh wordwide from everywhere even from os in vm behind firewall and nat with dopus or without it!!

the resaon I dont want share above secret here is, I like this problem be solve from inside of Dopus. I only share above solution here, If I see mutli row tabs supported by my lovely dopus!!

But dont worry. if you really need connect to ftp, ssh, sftp, webdav or what ever you need by tuneling and and just ssh!!, Then send me a private msg. I will help you.

I every night see dream of Dopus 10 with multi tabs rows get supported!
