Ftp speedups?

Is there a way to increase ftp file uploads by opening multiple uploads simultaneously? Or is this a stupid question?

I am finding that uploading a large number of files takes very long, and as I have a fast internet connection, perhaps parallel uplods might improve the transfer speed.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think WS_FTP by Ipswitch does this.

There's not currently any automatic way to upload multiple files in parallel. (You can do it manually, of course.)

That's a pity. Is there any chance of this being added in the foreseeable future?
