Hang when right-clicking on a file (ExpressZip shell extension)

recently i have had some issues with opus
eg
1/ select all,(press CTRL A) fails to select all so reverted to placing SELECT ALL icon on toolbar
2/ to select file or folder RIGHT CLICK but this was and still is causing dopus to hang. the only way out of this is via task manager/ end task

this /2 happens irregularly, some days often, other days not at all.
as you can imagine it is a right pita. :nauseated_face:

to correct this i uninstalled/ completed registry clean up and back up, reinstalled dopus
still 1/ and 2/ happen

as 2/ is a major issue, 1/ ill deal with later can you help me with /2 please

Hangs when right clicking are almost always caused hy shell extensions something else has installed.

See the troubleshooting section of the FAQs for a guide on how to track down the component causing the problem.

what i did to fix this issue
1/
went to

Notepad++
checked ths was out of date
uninstalled and reinstalled

ran WISE reg cleanup
cold boot ,(full power off) reboot
outcome issue still occuring but sless frequently
noter: issue NOT occuring in WINDOWS FILE EXPLORER, WFE

for all other extensions mentioned,eg NOD32 i have none of these programs installed

When the problem happens again, go to Settings > Customize Toolbars > Keys and check that the Ctrl A key is there, and that it isn’t red.

Did you try the Hide Windows items on file context menus setting the guide mentions?

Note that registry "cleaners" are more likely to cause problems than solve them, if they change anything at all.

did as you instructed

n Opus or Explorer, type %TEMP% into the location field and push return.
Look for a sub-folder called DOpus.Minidumps. The actual path will look something like: C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\DOpus.Minidumps.
If the folder exists it will contain one or more .dmp files, timestamped with the date and time of each crash.

but neither the folder or file can be found/ exist

so as alternative did this
from task manager ceated the following file
dopus (3).DMP and attached via DROPPOX BUTTTT it is 263MB. yikes

but the dopus (3) (2).zip is only 97.342KB, phew, 05 may 2023, 01.20am
sent to crashdumps@gpsoft.com.au.

The problem appears to be caused by this DLL, part of Express Zip:

C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\ExpressZip\ezcm64.dll

Uninstalling it, or blocking its shell extension, should make things work again.

(Updating it may also fix things. I tried with the latest version of it on my own system and it didn't seem to cause me any problems.)

It looks like their code is trying to read the window title of a window which is either not responding or belongs to a different thread to the one opening the menu (where a different method to the one they are using must be used to avoid this kind of deadlock).

try as i might i cant create the issue in DOPUS atm. given that i wont do as you instruct as the problem may non existent atm but should it reoccur then ill follow your instructions
in any case i have never used this sortware, expressZip, always using winrar.

some days not at all but other day to the point i find FILE EXPLORER attractive.....:frowning:

previously to solve this issue EXPRESS.ZIP was uninstalled BUT the issue persists

If that crashed, it's a GDFS component which crashed and not Opus. The report should be sent to Google.

You can go to your search bar on the bottom left part of your screen. Then you can search on Google Drive.

You can also try to go to your device settings then click on "Apps" see if there is any Google Drive for desktop installed.

Upon checking the screenshot you have sent, you are using a Dropbox which where the file has came from.

Just to give you some information, Dropbox is a different platform from Google Drive.

You can go to drive.google.com and from the "My Drive" section, you will see the file that you have shared with us or the file that you have attached on the email that you have sent.

Once you find it, you can right click on the file then select "Share"

If that does not exist from your device, then it seems that you had a confusion with the support that you have contacted to before.

It's even indicated in the error message that the file is "Shared with Dropbox" meaning this is all related to Dropbox instead of Google Drive.

Which you also mentioned that you're not using any Drive application at all.
