How many windows can be within one lister?

how many windows can be within one lister? is the maximum 2? ( as in dual horizontal, or dual vertical)

for instance, say you had a dual horizontal display- could you then divide each of those into a dual vertical, giving four windows within the lister?

2 per lister.

You can of course create layouts which use multiple listers to create the effect you're after.

tanis, thanks for the reply- can you give me 1 brief example of what you mention?

for example, there is sometimes some file work i need to do ( enough so that i set a custom lister for it) where it'd be nice to have 3 windows- since there can be only two, i often have to minimize/restore listers back and forth. i think tabs though, will pretty much cover this area.

speaking of tabs, i cant quite figure out how to use them yet- i set a tab up with a starting folder, and the lister opens in that folder, over-riding the lister's setting to open with a folder- i thought that the lister would open, with a tab starting in the folder i specified in the tab settings? many questions yet

Here's a quick screenshot...

thanks tanis- do you know where i could look to learn about working with tabs? i cant seem to get it figured out

The manual and searching the forums for tabs would be two good starting points I guess.

The manual  ?

ah, i see now you can accomplish quite alot with tabs, they are far more flexible than just having more than 2 windows in a lister
