How to disable the new find box that shows up at the bottom?

When I'm on a lister and type the first few letters of the dir I want, a new find box that shows up at the bottom.

It completely knocks me, because I used to type the first say two letters to jump from simliar dirs, and now the keystrokes are captured by that little box.

E.g. if I have

foobar2000
foobar2000-acme

I would do "fo" then "fo" agan to get to the second dir (even if the lister is sorted by anything non-alpabetical).

Now the search box captures "fofo", and goes red. I don;t want that.
I want my old functionality back. (or anyone enlightened by how to use the new find box in useful ways!).

You can press F3 or Tab to jump to the next match.

Or you can turn off the new feature entirely via Preferences - Listers - File Display: Use Find field when typing in File Display.
