How to Set the Lister Default Sort to Most Recent on Top?

What is the best way for me to set the lister's default sort to show the most recent items on top?

I seem to prefer the "Explorer" Style lister. However, I find that I double-click the "Modified" column head twice every time I enter the proram.

As you probably guessed, I am a new user. I have read the help and played around in the program a little. And while I think I know, it feels like I am about to change something important.

So, before I start changing folder options willy nilly, I thought I'd ask.

Thanks.

Did you check out -> tools -> folder options. There you can (also) set the sorting criterium & save it.

Do you mean that you want to see things sorted by date whenever you open a directory?

Or do you mean that when you are sorting by Name (or whatever) and click once on the Modified column you would like it to sort with newest at the top, without having to click a second time?

If it's the second thing then you can achieve that via Settings -> Preferences - Display - Fields, then select the Date/time fields and turn on Reverse standard sort direction.

Yes, that is what I was about to do. However, I saw a dialog that said:

Do you want to:

  • Save this format as the new Custom Format and replace all
    existing saved formats, or

  • Save this format as the new Custom Format but leave any
    existing saved formats intact?

And didn't know if this applied only to the the Explorer Style I was in or everything. Frankly, "saved formats" doesn't mean anything to me yet.

Sorry if this seems too basic. Just thought asking first was the safer way to go.

Thanks.

Have a look at the Folder Formats FAQ (it's the first one in the list).

Also keep in mind that the Styles, Layouts and the Default Lister can all have their own folder formats, so you may need to update them as well if you want to change what happens when you open them.

(For the Default Lister, there is an option in Preferences that lets you tell Opus to ignore its format. For Styles, you can edit them in Preferences and turn off their formats.)
