Importing from an external XP harddrive to new Vista

Hi,

I have an import problem... my old XP desktop is now only an external harddrive ( motherboard died ) connected via usb cable to my new Vista laptop.

I have downloaded the program to my new computer, but can't seem to transfer my settings and preferences, etc.

When I search for the specified files... I cannot locate any such files.
Nor can my new computers search program, I have done a search of the entire harddrive to no avail.

Any clues, anyone?

Your toolbars should be easy enough to find on the disk. They will be under Documents and Settings, Application Data or Program Files depending on whether or not you were using shared or private configuration mode.

A lot of other settings are stored in the registry with Opus 8, though. (FWIW, Opus 9 moves everything to XML files.) I think you can load NTUSER.DAT from your old profile in order to export the settings to a .reg file but I'm not sure how to exactly when I look at RegEdit. A site on transferring/recovering registry settings might be able to help you.

Thank you.

I'll try looking there.

Sounds like it may end up being easier to just go from scratch, if they are not easily located, though.

(I hadn't done much with the toolbars anyway)

Thanks again.
