For images, I've changed the standard file type group for IMAGES so that only the {thumbnail} is displayed. It works for all sorts of images except .ico files.
Is this just an image preview problem of DOpus?
Just tried it myself and it seems to work fine here. I'm under Windows Vista though. Are you on a different Windows platform? That might make a difference perhaps ...
They work for me on Vista and XP. Try adding the thumbnail to Opus File type - All Files and see if they show up then.

The .ico filetype probably isn't part of the Images filetype group, although you can add it to the group if you want.
The .ICO file type is not part of the Images Type - I missed the fact that nate_dawg said that he'd modified the setting for the group. So I guess that's the issue
