At job, I have now new PC. So first thing to do, install Directory Opus!
Installation starts but failed just before end.
Files are copy in install folder but seems to have problem when copying "dopuscpl.cpl" (or maybe a shortcut in Xp Control panel). Alert is display (see capture) then all files are delete.
I found a workaround, install first DO9 then upgrade to DO10.
Installation needs admin rights but we can use Opus without admin rights
I use DO with no admin rights for 4 years now without problem.
There is alert "Installation should be done with user having admin rights" when installation starts but installation is not abord (and it's perfect, don't change this!).
All program files are copy but something at the end failed and delete all files.
Why Opus needs admin rights ? I think about dopuslib.dll register but what's else ?
Admins can install things. Users can use the things that admins have installed for them.
That is how Windows has worked since the first versions of Windows with multiple users and permissions.
(Portable versions may be different because they don't need to install anything at all, assuming the admins have not locked things down to prevent unknown programs being run from non-admin-controlled sources. They are also missing some functionality as a result.)
To register various the COM objects, shell extensions, etc. and to be able to install into Program Files which non-admins cannot write to.
