Is there an easy way to identify what is causing DOPUS to freeze intermittently for a few seconds?
(Does not seem to freeze with fresh install, but after applying backup, the freeze issue appears).
Alternatively:
Is there an easy way to identify exactly what changes are applied when restoring a backup?
Issue description
While browsing folders, or switching tabs DOPUS will sometimes freeze for a few seconds (as if it was waiting for an HDD to spin up).
Initially I thought this was actually caused by HDD/Windows misbehaving.
However on a different computer with only SSD this issue is still persistent (at least after my DOPUS backup has been restored).
Note:
I tested for a short while on a fresh install, and it did not seem be freezing then.
So it seems that something that the backup is applying is causing the issue.
Unticked all scripts unde "Prefrences -> Toolbars -> Scripts"
Edited "User Default" under Prefrences -> Folder -> Folder Formats -> Default Formats
Only left the "Name" column
Clicked "Revert to Default Toolbar Set" / "Factory Reset Toolbars"
Deleted all "Status bar definition" text under "Prefrences -> Display -> Status Bar"
Unfortunately problem still persists.
However after recently closing the folder-tree, there hasn't been any freezes for a few minutes now.
After reopening the folder tree (it took a few seconds to open), then I managed to provoke a freeze within 30 seconds.
Will restore the backup again and then try to use it without the folder-tree for a while, to see if it is the cause of the issue.
Not dropbox, but I do have Tresorit and pCloud.
However the issue is also present when i open up a Sandbox and just install dopus and apply the backup.
Turns out that what i do have, is a folder in Favorites that link to a non-existent network location.
Removing this folder from favorites (favorites are also displayed in my folder-tree) seems to remove the issue.
So it seems like it is trying to refresh or load this network folder, even if I browse entirely different locations on my local drive.
I tried installing an old version 12.4 I had lying around in a Sandbox and then applied the backup (including the link to non-existent network folder), and it seems like the issue is not present here.
I suspect that this issue could also cause some micro-stutters even if the network location was available, so possibly a bug?
Do you know if anything could be triggering a refresh of the Favorites items (in either the UI thread, or in such a way that it blocks the UI thread)?
I have only run these tests for a short amount of time, so it may have been coincidence.
I will observe how the system behaves over time.
