Irritating winRAR & behaviour

Sorry, perhaps this is not even DO related, but anyway, 2 issues...

Whenever I extract some huge file (700MB avi-file) from a rar-archive in Opus using drag-drop....

  1. While the archive is extracting removing focus from DO (ie switching to Firefox browser), it ain't possible to get DO to the foreground as long as the archive is extracting.

  2. After Winrar extraction is finished, DO shows a box "Copying... from RAR$somerandomchars to ...." and the whole file is copied once more.

Are these features which could be resolved with a setting in DO ?

OS : Win XP SP2

No this is a function of how WinRar behaves. When you drag & drop from winrar it extracts the data to a temporary file first, which is then passed to Opus, and Opus copies it to the target destination.

If you use the built-in unrar function in Opus then the copy will only happen once.

Sorry for bumping this up, but anyone else using DO and Winrar been able to stop this system-intensive double copying behaviour ?

Did you not understand what Jon was saying in his reply about what you're seeing?

First off i usually just opens a new window with dopus by doubleclicking my desktop whenever it gets busy like that, works just fine for me atleast. Second off in winrar settings under path theres an option beneath Folder for temporary files that says; Use Only For Removable Drives - or even better, you can just take the advice given here before me and let dopus do the job

Well, thanks for trying to help f0xman.

I have the option checked in Winrar, but I'm not kean on using the DO plugin because it's missing a lot of features, like splitting archives, password protection rar-files, and so on...

Even more, I don't find anything rar related using the Settings "Filter" function anyway.

That RAR plugin will extract split RAR archives, and (AFAIK) works fine with password protected RAR archives as well. What's it missing?

(Apart from the ability to compress RAR archives, but don't get me started on RARLabs' licensing...)

What I miss in RAR-Plugin is a detailed description if error occurs (which part etc.). Also Plugin doesn't continue when errors occur and deletes the file. And mentioned repair-function.

Also newest plugin asks twice for passwords again (already reported to GP).

What it does better (+++): Wrong passwords were shown immediately, not after extracting like in WinRAR.

Hmm, it's for both forums (I would post solution here if I would know).
