Issue with Copy/Paste

Every once in a while I go to paste something, but all I get is a file created called "Clipboard Text.txt" It usually contains the full path of the file I was copy/pasting. This happens on XP as well as Vista. I'm running DO 9.1.1.8. It happens randomly, so its hard to recreate.

Actually, I just checked, I am able to recreate it. Just copy some text, like the name of a file or folder. Then click inside DO and do a paste. It will create the text file and put the text in it. I've never seen this behavior outside of DO, so I'll assume its a DO issue. Is this a default behavior that I can turn off? Bug?

Thanks,
Adrian

PS. Is it me or is there no edit button for posts? :frowning:

If you have text in the clipboard and paste into Opus then it will save the text to Clipboard Text.txt.

If you have an image then it'll save it to Clipboard Image.bmp/png/jpg/gif. (Format depends on Preferences. You can also make Opus ask you each time you paste which format to use.)

This is entirely intentional and a very handy way to get the clipboard into a file. (e.g. It's a quick way to take screenshots of programs without requiring any additional tools: Just push Prnt Scrn (or Alt-Prnt Scrn) then paste into Opus.)

It doesn't break anything, either. If there's only text or an image in the clipboard then pasting would do nothing in other file managers. That includes if there is a file path string in the clipboard, which is just a random string of text as far as any programs are concerned.

(File copy & paste is done via other clipboard formats, not text. When you copy/cut a file a text version of the path may be put into the clipboard as well, so that you can paste into a text editor, but in order for file copy & paste to work there has to be some special data on the clipboard. Try manually putting a file path into the clipboard via a text editor and pasting into Explorer if you want to confirm that.)

If you find yourself accidentally pasting in Opus without realising that you have plain text (or an image) in the clipboard, you can make Opus prompt you before creating clipboard files:

Go to Settings -> Customize -> Keys and double-click the Ctrl-V hotkey. Change its command to this:

Clipboard PASTE AS=ask

If files/folders are on the clipboard then pasting will continue to work as before. You won't get prompted for pasting files/folders; you'll only be prompted when you paste clipboard text or images. The prompt gives you a chance to cancel or to change the filename and, for images, format.
