I have a key sequence ALT + Left mapped as Go BACK. When the Listermenu toolbar is displayed ALT + Left functions correctly. When the Listermenu toolbar is hidden ALT + Left does not function. As I toggle the Listermenu toolbar on and off so does the functionality of ALT + Left toggle.
A little odd?
If your hotkey assignment doesn't work when a particular toolbar is closed, you most likely have your hotkey bound to a button on that toolbar.
[ol][li] Make sure the toolbar is open.[/li]
[li] Right-click on it and select Customize.[/li]
[li] On the Customize dialog, click on the Keys tab. This is contains all hotkey assignments that are either: A) assigned directly in this list, or assigned in an open toolbar. If a toolbar is not open, you will not see any of the hotkeys assigned on its buttons.[/li]
[li] Find the listing that has the hot key assignment you are looking for.
NOTE: In the Type column it will say "Toolbar". This means you have your hotkey bound to a button on a toolbar. This is why the hotkey sequence will only work when that toolbar is actually displayed.[/li]
[li] Select this toolbar hotkey assignment and select Edit. For now, just leave this dialog open so you can see it.[/li]
[li] Click on the New... button to create a new hotkey assignment directly on the Keys list.[/li]
[li] Copy the command code from your toolbar button to the new hotkey assignment--this way the commands are identical.[/li]
[li] Unbind the hotkey assignment from the toolbar button by clicking on the delete (red "X") button at the end of its hotkey field.[/li]
[li] Bind the same the hotkey to the Keys list assignment dialog.[/li]
[li] On the new hotkey dialog, be sure to disable the System Wide option, if the command is not one that you want to work everywhere in Windows.
NOTE: This particular hotkey will not work outside of an Opus Lister, and binding it to a system-wide hotkey will most likely interfere with (or intercept) the hotkeys in other open applications. So while you are trying to Go Back in Internet Explorer, you would actually be going back in the active Opus lister somewhere.[/li]
[li] Click OK on both the Toolbar and key assignment Command Editor dialogs and exit Customize mode.[/li][/ol]
The hotkey is now bound to the same command in a place where Opus can access it all the time.
In my Opus Configuration, I remove all hotkey assignments that are defined in toolbar buttons, with the exception of those used to activate any of the Fields (Path Field, Command Field, Content Type Field, Filter Field, et cetera). I bind all of my hotkeys directly on the Customize - Keys list. This way if I want to close any of my toolbars, the hotkeys will still work.
IMPORTANT: If you do adopt this technique for your hotkey assignments, remember that when you change the command on your toolbar, that you will also need to change the related command on your hotkeys list. This is the only downside to defining your hotkey sequences directly on the Customize - Keys list. Still, this is a relatively small price to pay for global accessibility.
Thanks kenalcock
I went through your process and that fixed the problem - cool
