Is there any way to increase the size allotted to the captions under the icons in 'Large Icons' view? I am using version 10.0.1.0.4185.x86 under Windows XP Pro SP3.
The latest stable version is 10.0.5.0 and there is a 10.0.5.1 Beta. Best to try one of these first.
Regards, AB
Are you implying that there is a bug in earlier versions that may have been fixed? I thought I was looking for a way to implement a feature of which I was ignorant. Updating is always a good idea, though, and I shall proceed with your suggestion. Thank you.
It's worth updating as it's free and there have been many improvements and fixes since 10.0.1.0, but I don't think it will change how the Large Icons mode looks (unless there was a change I've forgotten about).
If you use Large Icons mode a lot, and have problems with large labels being truncated, you might want to try turning off Preferences / Display / Options / Use visual style to draw items (Vista/Win7 only, overrides selection colors) which stops them being truncated (but doesn't look quite as nice).
Unfortunately, I work under XP, for which the "Use visual style ..." option is not available.
Incidentally, changing the space reserved for large-icon captions, can easily be accomplished in Windows XP Explorer: Desktop>Properties>Appearance>Advanced>Item: Icon Spacing (Horizontal). There was a time, I believe in version 8, where such a change in XP would have been carried over into DOpus, but no more, not since version 9 in fact.
(I don't quite know what 'priority support' is, but I just linked my forum account, as suggested.)
The option is effectively always off in that case, so you've already got what I was suggesting.
That means you can see more of the label of the selected filename, but won't affect unselected files.
FWIW, that setting still exists (very hidden) in Windows 7 but appears to be completely ignored, even by Windows Explorer.
Opus lets you change the spacing in the Thumbnails and Tiles modes, via Preferences, but the Large and Small Icon modes are pretty much fixed. To be honest, I'm not sure why we even have those display modes as they have never seemed useful to me compared to Thumbnails and Tiles.
Yes, I saw that, and wanted at least the same amount of label when unselected. As it stands now, I setup the label (with the filename selected, of course) and then it gets truncated when I deselect—rather annoying.
I guess the time has come to take another look at Thumbnails and Tiles; I decided a long time ago (version 5, perhaps, maybe 6) that I preferred 'Details' and the occasional 'Large Icons', and never thought of the matter again, until now.
Thank you.
Thumbnails mode is just what I was looking for—almost. It allows me to adjust the size of the icons and their spacings. In the case of folders, that's all I need, but for files I would very much like to preserve their original icons. Is there any way to switch off (disable) thumbnails for the files while preserving it for the subfolders in the same folder? (The reverse is the default: thumbnails for the files and not for the subfolders in the same folder.)
I don't think there is a way to disable thumbnails in thumbnails mode, only on tiles mode, sorry.
