Launch Directoy Opus automatically on system startup

Hi i'm a new user of Do and i have the auto start DO on windows startup set in the preferences turned on. When I log into Windows DO starts up ok but it loads full screen. How can I set it so it loads into memory but just starts into the system tray and not open full screen? The manual mentions something about starting in quiet mode but it doesn' mention how you turn this on.

Also i'm trying to set shortcuts (buttons) to my most used locations. I've set buttons to a few folders and also to My computer. The problems i've got is that the My computer link opens a new version of DO. How can I set it so DO open's the my computer link so it opens in the current tab?

Thanks for any help.

Steve

1st question:

Go to Preferences / Startup and select Don't open any Listers.

2nd question:

The button should run Go /mycomputer but you don't have to create it, it's already in the default menus as Go -> My Computer.

If you've edited the default menus then there is also a pre-made Go To My Computer button in the Customize dialog under the Go command category.

Thanks nudel,

I've dragged the Go to my computer button onto my taskbar and it works great.

Regarding my main issue i'd like a few tabs to always be open when I start Opus, locations to a few placed I go to a lot. Thats why i've set it to always open a saved lister. Is there anyway to start opus minimised but when I open it it's got these tabs already open?

Thanks

After setting Opus not to open any listers at Startup, you can do one of the following:
[ol][li]Go to Preferences / Double-Click / Desktop and configure a saved Lister Layout to open when you double-click the Desktop and/or the Taskbar icon.[/li]
[li]Go to Preferences / Layout / Saved Layouts and drag your saved Lister Layout to the Desktop to create a shortcut to it. You can then double-click this, whether or not Opus is already running, to open your lister.[/li]
[li]Go to Customize / Keys and create a System-Wide hotkey (or edit the existing Win-O hotkey) that you can press at any time to load your layout. The command will be Prefs LAYOUT=MyLayoutName.[/li][/ol]On the other hand, if you literally want your lister to open minimized at startup (i.e. so it has a button on the taskbar but isn't visible) then you can do that in a couple of ways. Shout if you want that instead of the ability to quickly open your saved lister via one of the above methods.

Yes please, all I want to see when I start Windows is the Opus icon in the system tray. Then when I double click it or open Opus in some different way it opens with my tabs.

Thanks

I did some experimenting and realised that you can simply minimize the lister before saving it as a layout. When the layout is invoked the lister will open minimized.

(Use Preferences / Layout / Saved Layouts: Save As to save a layout while the lister is minimized.)

The sorts out startup. But what about if Opus is already running but you've closed the window and want to open it again, without exiting and restarting Opus, and without it being minimized? I'm still having a think on how to do that without having to save two layouts or two tab-groups.

I think we both misunderstood each other in our last replies.

The three options I gave before my last reply will make Opus appear in the system tray at startup and when you double-click the desktop or the tray icon it will open your lister as you want. I think that's what you want!

The stuff I posted in my last reply is only useful if you want the lister to open and be minimized (not "minimized to the tray" but minimized like a normal window).

From his last comment, I'm still not sure he wants any lister opened on Windows starup. I know that's what it seemed like when he said 'minimized' but now I'm confused again... seems there's some confusion between 'taskbar' and 'system tray'.

Seems like he just needs to be able to open a layout saved with various folder tabs when double-clicking the system tray.

Yup, which is what my earlier post, with the 3 options, provides.

Sorry for the confusion guys. What I mean is I would like Opus to just be in the system tray at Windows startup, not open in a window and not showing in the taskbar. I've done this

and now when I start windows instead of Opus opening up its minimised on the taskbar. Any way to just get the icon on the system tray only?

Thanks

The things in my 3 options post do exactly what you're trying to do.

OK i've got it working exactly how I want it to work now. I got a bit confused and in fact Nudel had provided the perfect answer in his 3 option posting eariler in the thread.

I've done this......

and it now it works just fine.

Sorry for the confusion and thanks a lot for sorting me out. Problem solved.

Yep
