Lister Layout question

I have read the FAQ and have been playing around with this for a while now, but I cannot seem to get it to work the way I want it to work.

I use the tabbar on top to switch between one mode and another. For instance I have one called Laptop which auto loads the directories i want when i first load it and in the format I want. I use another one called "images" and it switches from dual mode to single mode in thumbs view.

However, when I switch from one to the other, the width of the folder tree window changes. I want the folder tree to remain a certain size. I created the layout under the "laptop" tab to the width i want and then saved it. If i close and restart the lister it remembers it. If I click on "laptop" the width changes to something wider, and if i click on "images" it goes even wider, only allowing 3 thumbs across instead of 4 that I want. If I close the lister and restart it, it is back to the way I had saved it.

What can I do to either have 2 different widths for the folder tree section or make it narrower and keep it at that width no matter what tab i use on top?

I guess the same goes if I want to have my display in dual mode, but have them 2 different widths instead of splitting it evenly.

Hope i was able to make that clear, if not I will be happy to try to explain it better.

You're not resizing the lister between switching styles are you? The width of the tree appears to be saved as a percentage of the window's width, rather than an absolute position.

If you want to use the tree with all of your styles (i.e. none of your styles need to turn off the tree) then you could go to Preferences - Listers - Styles and un-tick the Folder Tree checkbox for each style. That will mean that they all leave the tree as-is.
