Hi,
I thought I have seen this feature in DOpus used by a friend. It goes like this - when a file name is type in a lister, the find as you type happens, but the result is not just selection of the matching file - but a visual filter applied on all files in the folder with matching name typed.
Eg: xls or *xls typed in the lister should automatically list the xls files in the folder only, not other files.
Is this an existing feature in v9? I installed the trial and seem to have Find as you type, leading me only to selecting the file, matching the typed in text.
This is a really handy way of simple filtering. Once you press enter the remaining files are hidden. In case it is not immediately obvious (and I'm not claiming it was for me), the way to restore visibility of all files is to type **.
PaladinMJ, are you talking about the Find-As-You-Type Field (also known as the Search Field) which appears when you type into the file display? (Assuming it is enabled.)
Or do you mean one of the Filter fields that you can add to your toolbars and which are always visible?
Are you pushing return after you type *zip?
You need to type ** on its own, not on the end of the previous string. i.e. zip* won't clear the filter.
yes understood that is what i'm doing and it's not working..
if I type it (**) in the filter box directly it works as expected. but if i use ** in the on the fly find as you type it wont switch back to all files from whatever filter i am in.
Ah, it sounds like you are mixing two different types of filter.
Where is the *zip filter set? If it's a toolbar filter box, which kind is it and, if it's the generic File Filter Field kind (with the icon on the left) then which mode (files, folders, local, realtime, etc.) is it in?

I've asttached screen's to help... mode.. well i'm browsing locally.. files an folders.. no custumization on the filter command box ex. posted.. I'm thinking it's user error... isn't it...
If you want to use the FAYT field and the toolbar Filter field interchangeably then you need to set the toolbar Filter field to use the "View Filter" mode.
You can do that by using the drop-down menu you get when clicking the icon on the of the toolbar Filter field. If you want it to stay in that mode, customize it (as shown in your first screenshot) and add local into the Args string.
(I've got no idea why the argument calls it "local" but the menu calls it "View Filter" )
ehehee ooooooooh-kay! USER ERROR for the loss!!!
thanks Leo. I'm reading up on the modes post so that might help. There is sooooooo much to come to grips with in regards to dopus!
