I hope you all had a great holiday, with many many more good days to come in 2014. I've been using dopus since version 8 or so, and I've never had this happen before. when I enter a directory with a LOT of entries, I cannot get the listing to advance more than about 16 names, then it just starts over from the top again. I have checked my prefs just to be sure, but I haven't touched them in a long time! Has anyone had this happen before or does anyone have the magic cure? Total hours on this system is minimal. I find this to be most baffeling!!!
How are you scrolling? (Have you tried other methods? e.g. If you were using the mousewheel or scrollbar, does using the cursor keys make a difference?)
Hello, Leo. This is my downloads dirctory that has many directories of downloaded photo from my camera. Probably about 50 directories or so. I've always been able to use the scrollwheel on my trackball to scroll up and down the lister, but all the sudden, all it will do is scroll from the starting directory, to bottom of the lister page, then it sort of auto-jumps back to the top, and starts over again. But I never get past the bottom of the first visible portion of that first part of the lister window. If I use the up and down arrows, I can go all way from top to bottom, then back to top again, but using the arrow keys, no matter where I stop, I can only see that portion of the window if I use the scroll wheel again. This has never happened before in any verson, including the registered current version 10.5.4.0 x64 bit version. Any ideas what might be happening here? I can scroll through long pages of docs and such using the scroll wheel, so I don't think it has anything to do with that being broken.... Thank you "VERY" much for your help and ideas to come!!
50 files/directories isn't that many so we can rule that out. (I was thinking there might be hundreds of thousands of files, which could be unusual enough to trigger something unexpected, but 50 or so is normal and wouldn't cause a problem).
Can you think of anything, in Opus (e.g. config changes, updates) or on your computer (e.g. installing, updating or re-configuring other software or drivers), that was done just before this started happening?
No, I cannot think of anything I changed, but just to make sure, I did a system restore to one week past, but it had not effect on the problem... still the same 'ole issue, or rather, still the same 'new issue with scrolling through the window. Very baffling. I've done everything from a system restore to updating and rolling back the driver for the expert mouse. I'm stuck......
More fuel for the fire..... I connected an old mouse I had to this computer that had the Kensington Expert Mouse connected, and you know something? It works just fine, in every way I can think of to test it with. I put the Kensington on the backup laptop I have, and it now works just fine! I thought that maybe, just maybe, things had worked themselves out, so I put the Kensington back on this main computer, but no joy, it's still doing the same strange things it started doing a couple days ago... I called Kensington and they kindly offered to replace the trackball if I would return it to them, along with the original sales receipt. Right.... I don't have a 4 year old sales receipt for this thing... I told him the model and serial number should be on file from when I registered it after I bought it, but he said " No receipt, no replacement." That also means I won't be spending my hard earned money ($125) on their trackballs anymore, either.
Well, I suppose this thread could be considered closed, because it's not a problem with Dopus, nor my machine. I see it more of a problem of less sales support from Kensington. I will NOT refer anyone to them ever again!!! Thanks for your help along the way, Leo!
