Long file names cut short in Win 7

Hi all,

I have been using Directory Opus 9 for a couple of years on Windows XP and was very happy. Today I installed version 10 on a Windows 7 machine and so far it is not quite working properly. All the longer file names are displayed short as it was in DOS:

DIR123~1
FIL456~2
etc...

For the life of me I can't find a setting responsible for this nonsense.

Thanks.

That's usually the result of trying to use a pirate version or bypass the licence checks in Opus.

Absolutely not the case here. I have downloaded trial directly from the site. Windows 7 is a legal installation as well which came with a Lenovo laptop.

Nothing fruity about the certificate, network/firewall setup, etc.?

Drop a note via the official support page if you need help.

Don't know what accounts for fruity. Actually I was given this laptop to do some work so I am not fully aware of how it is set up. I have filed an official request. Thanks.

It's amazing how many laptops used by someone who tried to pirate Opus are then given to other people who also want to install and use Opus. I've lost count of how many times we've heard that story.

I'm told that the eval cert you used to send a support request was made one minute before the request was sent, and long after this thread was started, which has further raised suspicions.

If you really didn't try to bypass the licence checks in Opus then my advice is to format the computer and do a complete re-install of the operating system, because whoever you got the computer from had been running pirate software on it and the entire machine is in an untrusted state. Who knows what else is lurking on there.

On the other hand, if you remember/admit what was done to the machine, and buy a licence, then we will be happy to help fix whatever it is that has been done to the machine in an attempt to bypass the licence checks.
