Media Server listed under Computer

Hi,

I can see in My Computer under Network an entry which is called Media Server. However, I cannot see any properties for it when I right click to find out which type of media server is it or which folder it belongs to.

It does not even take me to the files or media when I double click on it.

In fact, Directory Opus hangs and I have to close it forcefully when trying to access this media server.

I cannot see the server in Command Prompt with

Net Share

as it is not a normal folder which is shared. It shows as Media Server.

Any help on locating the type of server and how to rename, disable, reenable it (if required) will be appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

Is it the same in File Explorer?

Have you changed the setting in Opus which turns off the native display of the Computer folder?

Yes, It is same in File Explorer.

I do not think so I have done any changes that can affect the native display of Computer Folder in such a manner. All I have done is select This PC as default lister and added or rearranged columns to display in the listers.

I also checked Media Streaming server and it is disabled in windows.
Windows Media Streaming

Just to give a brief background, I was ensuring that I remove all network shares and other shares created long back from my computer that are not necessary and while doing this exercise, I found that all network shares can be traced to where they are pointing to and removed using fsmgmt / Shared Folders and other such means. However, although the media server shows up in Network in both File Explorer and Directory Opus, I cannot trace what it is, location it is pointing to nor find a way to disable it. It just gives me an option to remove device. So, it just might be some device which is working as a media server after all.

Just to add a bit more information to yesterday query is that when I double click on the network share in Directory Opus, it does not hang but is unresponsive for a long time and finally opens the media server which shows Pictures, Videos etc. within it.

It appears that I might have installed or enabled some media server or a device which is being used as a media server and which is showing up in both File Explorer and Directory Opus but not able to trace what it is and where it is pointing to for finding its media files.

Make sure Preferences / Folders / Virtual Folders / Native display of 'Computer' is turned on in Opus, otherwise it will show the same thing Explorer shows (by definition).
