what is the distinction between a button and a menu button?
it seems that the menu button offers a drop down list, but i don't see how to add more than one item
i am try to make a custom list of folders to jump to (i do know about favorites, i am trying to learn about this for some other stuff)

Just right click the first button you created, or just drag and drop the folders onto the menu (in customize mode):

couldn't get the add to work but i must be doing something wrong, i will figure it out though

Menu-buttons have both a button and a menu. If you right-click the button part you can edit it like a normal button. If you click on the drop-down part on the right of it then a sub-menu appears which you can edit like a normal menu.
