Just wondering if there are any plans to be able to enter metadata directly through the listers without having to open a special panel?
It would seem to me that Metadata is eventually going to be the best way to find and list files. Better searching gets better and more accurate results and obviously improves productivity. Files names should become meaningless as "listers" are able to display and edit the metadata directly at least for user files. Why go through all this synching between metadata and file names when the file names could just go away or be obscured for the most part from the users?
Secondarily, when one has many titles and you use DO's ability to display columns from the metadata it can be very sluggish in sorting and grouping the results. Is there someway that this could be enhanced to use a auto-sync'd database of the metadata to build the lister rather than interrogating each file when a lister is opened?
I would think this would be a win for DO if it were the first to market the ability to obscure the file names and alternatively be based on the metadata.
That sounds not like just a piece of cake. Currently we can go through the files list with the panel open & edit
straight away, without having to switch columns on or having to arrange them.
The two things (Metadata Panel and inline editing in lister) does not exclude each other. Much like rename window and inline renaming. One method may be more convenient than other, depending on situation.
And if someone has custom format for (sub)directories containing audio/video/document files, he does not need to rearrange columns to display metadata that he want to see/edit.
