(VII.) Dopus 11: more intense highlighting of the fact that objects are hidden
Unsure if this is feasible already: When files are hidden, "hidden" is colored red in status bar. This is good, but
not enough, esp. on large high res monitors with smallish font. Please give some option that make more salient
the fact that files are hidden. For example, coloring the column title bar ("name, size") red, or adding a
red note underneath the last file in the list "15 files are hidden". e.g.
Preferences / Display / Colors and Fonts / File display background has an option to change the background color when the quick filter is active (usually activated by pushing the * key).
For "ambient" filtering that happens due to Preferences and Folder Formats, I think the status bar is the only indicator. You can edit that to make the hidden text or colors more conspicuous. (Preferences / Display / Status Bar)
Sorry, I indeed missed the background change feature.
However I use background color already to color duplicate folder structures on backup media to avoid that I mistake them for the "real deal". (It would be interesting which formatting would then prevail, btw).
Red and bold is probably as suspicious as it can get... So I'll still stick to my feature suggestion of an optional line within the file display area that points to the fact that the filter is active (note that are several reasons files can be hidden. I am actually only referring to files hidden as a result of an active inline filter. Perhaps coloring the whole status bar red, and/or the bar with the path and/or the right scroll bar, or adding a red frame around to the file display area or s.th. like that might help. I don't really care what it is, I just notice that I am constantly using the quick inline filter and am very often confused as I have lots of tabs opened and cannot mentally keep track of which tabs have an active filter running at the moment, and the hint that there is one running is just far to subtle. it is also at the bottom of the page (status bar), i.e. one clicks onto a tap (eyes focus top of screen) and then they would always need to go down to check for "hidden" in the status bar after each tab click. In fact one could also color a tab red that has a filter running, or something like that. I hope you can see my point. I am just trying to make things more ergonomic / prevent unwanted operations.
I'd like to add, that i would use this option, but almost all of my folders have some kind of backdrop image, so it doesn't work in those cases. Don't know, if it can be done easily, but maybe some sort of overlay would be possible, to indicate the filterings state, so that we could use both features.
If you use background images which are translucent and/or have transparent areas, they will be combined with the background color, allowing you to have both.
I have only normal JPGs, mostly backgrounds like wood or paper in various light styles, which maybe wouldn´t look good with transparent areas. But it´s not a big thing, only wanted to mention it.
That's a great idea, combining translucent background images with a background color to make use of both features.
In fact this is superior to my suggestion since adding a notice at the end or to the beginning of the file list is be useless when the top resp. bottom of the list is out of view!
Hmm. Anybody have ideas what would look great but not too pop artsy?
I currently have magenta for the backup drive folders. Since as far as I can remember the coloring is applied vertically, according to the columns (name, size, ...), the partially transparent background image could feature diagonal (45 deg) lines, since horizontal lines may visually interfere with horizontal file selection. As to the color, it depends on everyone's individual scheme of course, but surely Cyan would make for a nice effect together with magenta ;-D
