Name Column width

I've been using Opus 9 for about 5 weeks. I love it. I am strongly considering buying multiple licenses. There is one piece of functionality that I've spent hours trying to find/figure out. If I can make this work, I will buy it.

How do I do this:

Any time I click on any folder anywhere, I want the name column to automatically optimize to the width of the name of the longest file name in that folder. In other words, when I enter a folder, I want to be able to see the entire file name of every file in that folder. I would even be happy to learn how to save this setting for individual folders.

What you want is called Auto-Size in Opus and there are a number of ways you can invoke it either automatically or manually. The easiest way to get started is to create a toolbar button with the command

Set AUTOSIZECOLUMNS

After that you can look at setting up folder formats or styles to do it automatically for you.

Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate your time and consideration. I am still confused...so sorry. I spent the last 20 minutes trying to figure out how to AUTOSIZECOLUMNS. I did a search on this command, and there are two results. There is a wealth of information on the multitude of commands available...but nothing that seems to explain how you execute the commands.

Is there a command prompt? How do you execute all of these commands? I can tell that so much time and thought and work and effort has gone into this application. I want to love it. But I don't want to have to spend hours to learn how to use it. Make it more user friendly and you have something amazing on your hands...

See the Toolbars 1 video in the Tutorials part of the forum to learn the basics of creating buttons.

Or just turn the auto-size option on via Tools -> Folder Options -> Display. Then see the Folder Formats FAQ (at the top of the list) for how to set it on for all folders if that's what you want.

(Sorry, no links, in a hurry!)

I don't know if this is what igl's screenshot showed.

Right click a column heading.

Select More... in the dropdown.

Select the Display tab.

Check Auto-size columns.
