Name field grid lines gone in beta

This was puzzling to me... I wondered if they've always been like this so I tried reinstalling the older version and the grid lines came back. Re-installing 12.7.3 beta caused them to disappear again.

The opacity is low so you might only be barely able to make out the lines.

  • Which older version are you comparing with?

  • Also, is 12.7.3 beta definitely the newer version, not 12.7.2 beta? Are you rebooting after installing the updates?

  • Is it the Name column that does this, or whichever column is selected for sorting? Under Preferences / Display / Fields, is Current sort field (right at the top) set to use a background color?

I should have been clearer: After reverting back to the stable 12.7.0 release, the grid lines came back. Yep, even after rebooting more than once it persists.

It is indeed the 12.7.3 release where the lines disappeared. But I'm not quite sure if I actually did update to 12.7.2 before installing 12.7.3. I just don't remember.

Oh yes, you're right, it's whichever field is set for sorting. If I create a hierarchy in sorting (e.g. name 1st, ext 2nd, size 3rd), only the first field loses its grid lines.

As for your last question: yes, and no. I know it's odd. The current sort field indeed WAS checked but the custom color and font settings box was NOT checked. I checked the latter box and clicked apply. Unchecked it and clicked apply. The line now appears and the current sort field box now is also unchecked. Now unchecking the custom color and font check box also unchecks the current sort field box at the same time. But I'm almost certain it was the opposite case before.

But, yep, it's all FIXED after doing that. Thanks, Leo!

P.S. I tried recreating the odd check-uncheck box scenario by restoring to a previous configuration. Apparently both boxes were in-fact checked. What the heck, it's almost 12 midnight and my brain is fried! Let's just dismiss the probably Schrodinger-box-nonsense scenario I stated earlier.

Strange. Good it's working, but hard to explain.

If you happen to have a config backup from when the problem still happened, we'd like to take a look to see if we can work out what caused it, but if not don't worry.

I took one probably two or three hours (version 12.7.3) before applying the change in the sort field preferences you mentioned. Yeah, sure. How do I send it to you though (I assume keeping all settings and my saved info unmodified)?

Not wanting to waste your time here checking what turns out into nothing, it may not really make a difference since as I mentioned restoring to that last config basically shows that the checkboxes for custom background was indeed activated. My best guess is another inactive field may have been highlighted or selected that was actually inactive that's why I thought it was unchecked at first.

Attaching it to a private message is easiest.

Thanks!

Thanks for sending the config to us.

With that we found a couple of situations where combinations of settings would cause the grid lines not to be drawn in columns with a background color. We've fixed that for the next update.

I thought you were just going to be chasing ghosts there... as superficially it didn't seem to be anything

But I'm glad to know I could be of help!
