My laptop still has v8.2.2.5U ... and the problem i am having i am not sure if it is something with DO or not.
On my drive bar I have a link to my main server. Clicking it shows me the shares on the server.
1 time out of 2 or 3 clicking my share, will cause DO to hang, and when it finally responds, the share opens up in a Explorer window instead of in DO. Not sure what is causing this as I have no problems on my other puters.
If I manually type in the \name\share it works all the time (At least so far as i have been able to see).
Anyone have any ideas? This is on a new laptop, so I am not discounting it being a problem with something on the unit.
edit: if i go via windows explorer, no problems at all.
It should only temporarily hang the one lister window, until the network (or whatever is blocking the operation) responds. You can usually open other listers to work on other things in this situation.
It's strange that Opus vs Explorer is different as the \server view is provided by Explorer, even in Opus.
It's possible that this isn't related to the network but instead is due to something blocking DDE messages in your system. I may be wrong but I think when you double-click on the share in the \server view it may cause Explorer (inside Opus) to send a DDE message to tell Opus to view the \server\share directory. If the DDE message is being blocked then the lister will hang until it unblocks.
If any GUI application in your system stops responding to window messages (you can usually tell because it stops repainting its window or goes white/ghosted) it can cause DDE messages between unrelated apps to be blocked until the unresponsive app comes back to life.
I am still having problems with this with 9.004 .. if i click on my shortcut on the drive bar to \server .. it displays the shares.. but 2 out of 3 times it will hang, and eventually it will come up with the share in an explorer window instead ...
If i manually type i the path, it works fine.
If i use the breadcrumb bar to change shares, it works fine.
If i use explorer, go to \computername and click on a share it works. Only via DO does a problem occur
It only appears to affect this one server. If i try to connect to the laptop it works fine no matter how i try it.
I am not sure where to look and y it is only doing this to the one computer
no, all computers are running XP Sp2 ... With DO on my 2nd laptop, it works fine, no problems with the connection. Only on my new laptop, and only with that one pc. I dunno. I am working around it, but i dunno nemore
