New native support for MTP devices (10.2.0.3 beta)

First, thanks for this new feature...
Now bad news (for me), nothing happen in my windows XP.
When i mount device (Samsung Galaxy S3), device is no display in My computer.
Sometimes, 2 items are display at bottom tree (sdcard and device memory) like before 10.2.0.3. It's XP MTP support, it's like in explorer.
If I go to mtp://, "Portable Devices" is open with nothing in it.

Nothing will have changed about what displays in the tree or in My Computer as that code hasn't been touched - the only difference is what happens when you double-click on a device in My Computer (or type in mtp:// in the path field).

We haven't tried the MTP stuff under XP yet so maybe it doesn't work at all although the interfaces are meant to be supported. Do you have a more modern OS you can try it on?

Jon, on my Galaxy Note and Win7 X86 it works smooth as. Many thanks.

Many thanks for this feature.
Before, with my cheap Canon camera, it was bane to select, move and delete files (no support for Ctrl-A, Ctrl-X etc). Now it works perfectly.

When using the new MTP support with my Canon Camera, Opus shows incorrect dates in the 'Modified' column

And when copying files from the Camera to a real folder on my hard disk Opus does change the file names:

 1. Not all devices provide both modified and creation timestamps - what does Explorer show?
 2. How exactly are you copying the files?

@AlbatorV: I've verified that currently MTP support doesn't work under XP, but the fix seems quite simple so we'll try to put out a new beta in the next day or so.

Many thanks Jon, I know that XP is and old OS but at job, it's XP.

At home, under Win7, it's work, but I have the same Cris' problem, when I drag and drop file in dual mode, or copy paste, file are rename with prefix.

Yes I've found the cause of that problem too and it will be fixed in the next beta which is hopefully tomorrow. The "normal" Copy button should work fine however.
1. Not all devices provide both modified and creation timestamps - what does Explorer show?

 1. In Windows Explorer the 'Modified' column is just empty. I think Opus should also just show an empty column when timestamps are not available and not 1-1-1601
 2. I will wait for the next beta.

:frowning:
Nothing happen with the last beta 10.2.0.4.
In Explorer, there are 2 items in My computer and 2 in tree.

In DO, Device is not display in My computer, but 2 items are display in tree.
If I clic in tree, files are display like MTP XP support.

Do you see them if you go to mtp:// manually?
If not, they're not MTP devices.

Go to mtp: // display nothing...
So my phone is not found by DO as MTP device. :frowning:

Maybe you need to set it into MTP mode in some way? I don't really know what to suggest I'm sorry.

 1. With the new beta filenames are OK now, but the copy dialog still shows the wrong filenames (drag and drop files from the camera to the harddisk):

 1. When using my custom button with this code: Copy {allfile$} TO B:[Werkmap]

The copied files still have wrong names:

@AlbatorV: Reading this it sounds like you may have your S3 configured in PTP mode. PTP is a different data transfer standard that is only intended for images from digital cameras.

Windows supports PTP using the WIA sub-system, but MTP is handled completely differently and currently MTP is all Opus is addressing.

If you follow the steps at that link under Method #4 you should be able to set the phone into MTP mode instead.

Many thanks Jon but I always use MTP mode even if i want to transfer images.
I tried to switch between MTP and PTP to see it's something changed but nothing :frowning:
I need to find another XP computer to see if it's not an admin right or restriction problem.

@Cris: Thanks, will be fixed next beta. Please report any such issues, since handling these filenames requires quite a lot of internal changes and I'm sure there will be other spots where they appear.

@AlbatorV: Ok, see what you can find out.

Btw, just in case you don't believe me

FYI: With 10.2.0.5 most of the development work on MTP is finished; with the exception of a few minor things and any new problems that you guys notice. So please yell out if you come across something that you don't think is working properly.

Hi Jon
How do I get my phone to appear on the folder tree.
I have a button with 'Go mtp://GT-N7000B' and that works fine
It appears in the Computer lister under Portable Devices but not in the folder tree
Any clues would be helpful
Many thanks
