Is there a way to make a New Tab open "blank" (all folders collapsed - not inheriting the folder structure from the selected tab) ?
Turning on Preferences / Folder Tree / Options / Collapse non-selected branches and turning off Unless open in other tabs below that would get you that. (It would also affect changing folders and changing tabs, not just new tabs.)
OK, will try that. Thanks!
I have the same request as @zenzai, but the option above doesn't have the desired effect.
Recently I enabled Preserve folder tree expansion when switching tabs so that each Tab basically has its own Folder Tree, and this was exactly what i was looking for. However when i open a new tab (using middle mouse click on a folder in the tree) it copies all the currently expanded folders with it. But for me that goes directly against the purpose of the aforementioned option. For me, all open folders in one tab are usually irrelevant to a new tab.
So instead of "Unless open in other tabs" it should really be Especially, when open in other tabs.
Really though, if we could have the option to "Collapse non-selected branches"
Only when opening a New Tab
That would be greatly appreciated!
(assuming it's not already possible with an option that i missed)
ps. The wording of 'Preserve expansion .. when .. switching tabs' seems a little confusing, as it could be interpreted as exactly what i want it to stop doing as mentioned above.
Also, folders opened in one tab do still get magically opened in other tabs - in certain conditions at least .. don't know exactly when. But for sure it isn't very strict in keeping the Folder Tree state preserved.
Any news on this? This has honestly become my biggest annoyance with the program. I know, it's annoying when people say that - but something like this can really be particularly prominent in daily use.
Firstly the option to "Preserve folder tree expansion when switching tabs" just doesn't seem to work 90% of the time. When expanding folders in one tab, they get expended in other tabs anyway, ignoring the setting completely. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly when it doesn't work - but it happens more often than not.
Secondly, the option to open new tabs with a 'clean' Folder Tree would really be very welcome. Where it would only have the selected folder expanded and nothing else.
The option to "Collapse non-selected branches" is not an option, as i do want to have multiple branches expanded, just not repeated across multiple tabs. Currently there doesn't appear to be any way to prevent this from happening - reliably.
Thanks!
ps. This part is not a big issue: but the Folder Tree jumps around sometimes while the 'preserved' state is being loaded/refreshed, or whatever it's doing when switching tabs - it makes navigation appear a bit messy. (only happens with the 'Preserve folder tree expansion' option enabled)
We've made some changes in the next update which will hopefully improve this.
