Nexus 7 transfers to Windows 7 freezes dopus 10.5.0.0 (4779)

Using: Directory Opus Pro 10.5.0.0 (4779) x64

Windows 7 Explorer handles file transfers between my Nexus 7 tablet (Android Jellybean 4.2.2) just fine.

Attempts to transfer the same files via Directory Opus results in an immediate freeze/crash...which can only be resolved by killing dopus.exe in Task Manager. Full reinstalls of dopus do not resolve the issue.

I've looked for some guidance in the FAQ, and the forum. However, similar problem reports from 2012 don't include any official replies. This is a repeatable crash that I would love to get fixed...or learn how to avoid. As stated, Windows Explorer is my fall-back solution until I can get more technical information about why Directory Opus is failing on my system.

Thanks for any help.

I don't see this here. So needs chasing down at your end.

I do sometimes see "empty" folders in Dopus that contain documents when opened in Explorer.

Any particular types of files?

The process of dragging and dropping files from the Nexus 7 tablet to a Windows 7 directory ALWAYS results in dopus freezing/crashing...unless I make a change in dopus: "Advanced Options" | "mtd_enabled" to "False". This toggle forces dopus to use an embedded instance of Windows Explorer, rather than the native dopus function, to complete the file transfer. Turning off this new capability of dopus is not ideal and it's not something I want to use long-term.

FYI, if you do not see this problem...I suspect that your instance of mtd_enabled is set to "False'...also. Would you check that and let me know?

Thanks.

The Nexus 7 is one of the main devices that both Jon & I have used when testing MTP support in Opus (with mtp_enabled = true) so there must be an extra factor here somewhere.

e.g. Is anything else accessing the device at the same time? That could be Explorer, or it could be parts of Opus itself. For example, the Description column will cause files to be read from the device in the background to populate what it displays, and MTP only allows one file to be transferred at a time, so having that column or a similar one turned on on an MTP device can cause file copies to be delayed until the column finishes populating. Similar with using thumbnails.

mtd? You probably mean mtp.

Set to "True" here.

Yes, MTP... Sorry! I was just fixing that error.

I made a change based on leo's reply. I was using the "Description" column. Once removed, and "mtp_enabled" set to "True", the transfers once again seem to work as anticipated. Strange...but true!

I'm going to reproduce the last, large, drag & drop task that failed. If the problem is fully resolved, I'll be doing a happy dance. I'll be back with the results.

It seems the problem has been resolved...on my side. Turning off the "Description" column did it. For some reason, that column caused dopus to go into an endless loop when starting the tablet to PC file transfer - not simply to slow down the process. I'm going to try a few more tests before sending a "Bug" notification.

Thanks leo and others for your help. You're a GREAT resource that makes Directory Opus such a valuable tool.
