No News Feed and DNS Timeout

I am currently using ver 10.5.1.0 (64bit) on a Windows 7 SP1 64bit system, which has been working without issue up until approx 1 week ago.

After that point in time, however, lag issues started appearing in the performance of the software and my network connection would finally ground to a halt, requiring a restart to correct the issue.

Upon investigating the Event log the following sequence was always found and was reproducible

  • DNS Client Event - Name resolution for the name ver0.gpsoft.com.au timed out

  • (System Restart Isuued)

  • User Profile Service - DETAIL - 23 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-3105830598-3919711538-1066215702-500:
    Process 8260 (\Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopus.exe) has opened key

The above DNS Client Event appeared to be issued by either the automatic update checker / licence checker or even the news feeder, which when tested, would not respond at all, whereas on all previous occasions has worked as expected.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Check that you don't have Opus blocked by your firewall/anti-virus software.

Nothing has been changed on the firewall and the anti virus software (FSecure) has never flagged DOpus for user intervention, thus it considers it as safe.

As an aside should I be able to ping ver0.gpsoft.com.au, and if so, I cannot do so.

Thanks for your response.

Nothing has changed or started failing on our side either.

The news feed comes from a Google server while the DNS lookup is to a separate gpsoft server, so if they are both failing then it seems likely there's a network or firewall issue affecting Opus or your machine.

Can you view blog.dopus.com in a browser?

I can get to the blog via the browser, so I will delete and recreate the firewall rule (Windows Firewall) and let you know the result.

That is normal, by the way; it doesn't respond to pings.
