Folders in the folder tree (on the left), have a ">" toggle to open/close (sub)directories. However, I do not see such a toggle for subdirectories shown in a tab (on the right).
Is there a setting to show this toggle?

You can use Flat View to view the contents of sub-folders, but you can't expand individual folders except in the folder tree.
