This is a simple problem and I have to believe there is a solution, though I cannot seem to find it.
When I view a network drive using Explorer, the directory tree shows all the shared folders available on the host. These are shown under My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Workgroup.
When I view an FTP site in Explorer or in any FTP client, the directory tree shows... Well of course you know what it shows.
But when I view either of these in Directory Opus 9.1, the directory tree doesn't change at all--it shows only local drives. This makes some file operations impossible, and is very annoying in general.
There must be something I'm missing. Sorry to be a pest but could someone shove a sharp stick in my eye yet again?
Opus doesn't currently support FTP sites in the tree at all.
Network folders should appear in the tree, though. If you manually open up the tree can you get to the folder you were in?
One difference between Opus and Explorer is that Opus will enumerate everything in the Workgroup level of the tree which can take a very long time on corporate networks with a lot of machines, so it can take a long time (or just never happen) for the tree to get to the point where it can expand and select the network path. Explorer, on the other hand, "partially" expannds the Workgroup level, just adding an item for the machine you're accessing and not enumerating the entire network. There's already a feature request to make Opus behave the same way.
That explains part of the problem then. Thank you.
No, in Opus there seems to be no way at all to open the tree to where I want it to go; in Explorer, I can either open it manually or via command line, and it appears in the tree as well as in the right pane. In Opus, only the right pane appears.
I have a LAN with only two computers so it's not a delay issue.
According to the author, the network drive tree issue is known, and will be investigated. The FTP site tree issue is by design for performance reasons (although I disagree with the reasoning, and think it should at least be an option to view the tree for FTP sites).
