In my computer I have a card reader, and DOpus shows a device (with attached letter) for each one, even though there's no card in the drive: is there a way to only display devices with a disk/card in it ?
DOpus 9 or 10.

Show where? There are options to hide empty devices, but which option you need depends on where we are talking about.
Just FYI,
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. My empty card reader slots never showed under "Computer" (no tree, I have mine turned off). All of a sudden, they would show up, even though they are empty. Turning the option "hide empty devices" on/off did nothing (normally turned on) for those card reader slots but showed my dvd and virtual clone drive then. If i exited dopus, and re-opened, for the first 2 seconds, those empty drives would not show up. 2 seconds later, they showed up.
I had a video demonstrating this but decided not to bug Leo and company about it (Sorry, I don't have the video anymore.). Just figured it was my computer acting up. This week, the problem is gone and they are hidden again and they stay hidden. I know I didn't do anything different in dopus. Don't think I did anything in Windows. Nothing new installed or uninstalled.
My card reader is on my Dell monitor. Maybe turning the monitor on/off might of did something? I doubt it though since I turn it off every night and this problem was going on for a week or so.
Anyway, I just wanted the OP and Leo to know I had the same thing. Where empty card reader drives just started showing up when they never did before and the option to "hide empty devices" is turned on.
It sounds like your card reader was malfunctioning and reporting that it was non-empty.
Thanks Jon!
That's kind of what I thought it was. Why I never posted about it. Maybe the OP is having the same problems.
Leo42, maybe check your card readers connections. If external like mine, check the usb cable. If internal and you're willing to open the case, re-seat the connections to the card reader. Maybe that will help. Or, maybe the card reader itself is failing like Jon said and re-seating the connections might not do anything.
If this happens again for me, I'll try more physical tests to see if a loose connection was the problem or something else, and report back.
Just a followup,
I needed to do a full system restore from today's morning backup. After the backup was restored, the same card reader's empty drives came back. Exiting Dopus did nothing. I unplugged the USB cable that they use. I plugged the USB cable back in and each (of 4) came back 1 by 1. I exited Dopus and re-opened. They are now gone again and are staying gone
I don't know if that will help Leo42 or not, but it worked for me

I am seeing something similar. Empty drives come and go with no apparent intervention on my part.
Will try the plug/unplug options.
Another update...
I just rebooted and they came back. unplug/plug USB cable fixed it again. In Windows Explorer, they do not show up in the Tree but show up on the right side and are greyed out. Not sure if that is normal since I haven't touched Explorer since 2009
I'd say they are not reporting their status properly, and Explorer is hedging its bets by keeping the tree uncluttered but still showing them in the Computer folder in case you need them. Just a guess, though.
FWIW, I have a multi-card reader in my Dell monitor and there are no problems with how it reports its status. I think I'm just using the default drivers that came with Windows 7 or Windows Update, too. (Though there are also drivers for it on Dell's website which I have used in the past on older machines.)
Another possible explanation is anti-virus tools blocking software from talking to the drives properly, I suppose.
I have the same Monitor Leo (UltraSharp that has the card readers built in). Same default Windows 7 drivers too. I'd guess that it's SP1 for 7. I never had this problem before, until I recently formated with SP1 installed (6 weeks ago). Or maybe a recent update that is hurting something. IDK. I always assumed it was Windows so I'll keep thinking that and not worrying. I'm not all that impressed with SP1. Weird things like this have been going on since going to it. Maybe it needs another format.
There are loads of different Dell monitors (even with the same branding) so it may not be the exact same one, but it may also not be the monitor itself.
I don't think it's SP1 as I've been using that for yoinks on both the old PC and the new one that recently replaced it.
My empty disks have now gone away again. After a reboot.
But I have just added a PCIe card to add some USB3 ports. In the process several USB drivers got updated.
They came back again after unplugged something into one of the slots. Didn't not disappear when I unplugged the slot.
I suspect a deeper issue.
Deeper issue? Maybe.
The reader – a small box with USB (2&3) slots as well as eSata and sounds – was not recognising all cards properly. So I moved its USB 2 connector, the one for the cards, from one motherboard header to another.
It is now updating properly in Dopus. It is also reading all cards.
Is there a way to hide the -- ugh, still have one -- Floppy Disk Drive?
You can hide it from toolbars (drive buttons), but I don't think it can be hidden from the tree or the Computer folder.
(Or is it already hidden from the tree? I forget. I still had a floppy drive myself until about a month ago but I've forgotten the exact details already. )
I'm guessing you only use the floppy drive very rarely, so leaving the it disabled in Device Manager might be one way to deal with it.
Thanks. Disabling via Device Manager was what I was thinking too (and did). Next time I'm in the BIOS, I'll disable there, and next time I crack the case, out it comes. I hate that grinding sound when it tries to read a non-existent floppy.
You can hide it from toolbars (drive buttons), but I don't think it can be hidden from the tree or the Computer folder.

On older Windowses it was possible, using TweakUI.
I have been looking at this thing more closely of late.
I have a "hub" box/card reader that has a set of USB inputs and card slots. One of these.
If I plug a USB stick into one of the USB slots, all of the card slots show up in Dopus, but not in Explorer, or in the folder tree in Dopus.
I suspect some underlying issue with the USB box.
If I remove the USB sticks, then I still have all those empty card slots showing in Dopus.
The question is why do the card slots show when I put a USB stick into a USB slot?
This is on Windows 64, using native drivers, all that the IcyBox offers.
The empty slots do not show up in the tree.
If I use NirSoft's USBDeview to disconnect the drives, they vanish from Dopus.
I may also have problems with the card reader bit, which does not recognise any cards.
I have a very similar set up on a Windows 7 32-bit machine. This behaves itself.
So I lean toward there being a problem somewhere that is confusing Dopus. If I can sort out what is going on here, my guess is that Dopus will play just fine.
Check out my work-around:
