PDF Viewer

When I click on a pdf file, it opens the document in its own Adobe Reader 8 window, rather than in the DOpus 9 viewer pane. DOpus behaves fine for other file types, e.g., Word (i.e., click on file causes display in viewer pane).

(When I double click, I expect the Adobe Reader to be invoked--which it is.)

Open Adobe Reader's Preferences and turn on Internet -> Display PDF in browser.

Thanks for the suggestion, Nudel, but that was how Adobe Reader was set up already.

What happens if you try to view the same files using Internet Explorer?

Hmm... good catch.
It comes up in its own Adobe Reader window (instead of in the IE7 browser window). Not what I would have expected, since the setup in the reader, using Edit>Freferences>Internet has the "Display PDF in browser" checked.

I tried unsinstalling Adobe Reader and deleting setup files, and then reinstalling the reader. No difference.

I have had the same experience. Are you using the 64 bit version of DOpus? If so you might try opening an online pdf with the 32bit version of IE and then try the same file with the 64 bit verion The 32bit version will open "in browser" where as the 64bit version will open the full acrobat program. It appears to me that Acrobat is still not working correctly in the 64 bit environment, despite the 8.1 patch.

No, I'm using the 32-bit version of DOpus9 in 32-bit Vista (and presumably 32-bit IE). Hmpf.

Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I know you "uninstalled" acrobat, but what if you disable and then re-enable the "Display PDF in browser" option acrobat then try to display a PDF in IE?

I just tried that--in all permutations--no luck.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Do PDFs display okay in Explorer's preview pane? If so the new ActiveX plugin I'm finishing off should solve the problem for you.

(Just trying to make Excel play nicely... sigh. It's ALWAYS Excel that causes me grief when I touch this code... That POS messes with my life at work and it messes with my life when I write Opus stuff in my spare time. Grr.)
