Possible Bug? Enable Folder Content Type Detection

Not sure if this is a bug of the way I have my DOpus set up.

But I keep turning off 'Enable Folder Content Type Detection' and after a while it turns itself back on again!

Is it just me?

Cheers
Matt

Are you using the drop-down, next to the location field by default, to change to different content types manually? Using that turns detection back on.

(And it's only off when it's set to "Disabled". "None" isn't the same thing.)

That must be it Leo, thanks, I was on some folders changing it temporarily.

What I had been doing was using the 'Content Type' as the 'View' setting, which is incorrect.

Good to know what was happening though.

If you want something similar which doesn't turn on Content Type Detection, replace the content-type drop-down on your toolbar with the Folder Formats Menu you can find under Settings -> Customize -> Commands.

(Type formats into the filter at the bottom of the customize window to find it quickly, then drag it to your toolbar and click OK.)

I do have the opposite problem, so I guess I should write my problem on this topic.

I do have DOpus installed on my home computer, and made an export on a USB drive (not U3 style, finally i made my decision to use PortableApps platform).

On the USB drive, when I browse folders, content detection seems to work correctly, but not on my home computer.
I checked that the content detection is enabled in the settings (and of course it is as it works on USB (and as the only different parameter at the moment between both is the display of the DOpus icon in the tray for the portable app as it's not possible to replace explorer in portable mode (which is easily understandable)).

I sometimes uses the content detection override from the drop-down menu... but I checked that it's not "Disabled", but it stills doesn't detect anything on my home PC.

Is there any other option somewhere which can override the common setting for that?

Use Settings -> FileTypes -> File Type Groups to define the groups and which extensions are part of them. (e.g. MP3 is in the Music group by default, etc.).

Use Settings -> Preferences / Folders / Folder Formats -> Content Type Formats to define/enable/disable folder formats for those groups and to specify the percentage of files that need to be found for Opus to consider folders a match.

Also go to the Options page next to the Folder Formats page and check which types of drive content type detection is enabled for (fixed/local/network).

I checked all of these.

Everything is as you said (I also enabled the content detection for all fixed/local/network).

I didn't changed the percentages yet (so everything is at 25%) as I try to detect folders which contains at least something like 80-90% of the contents type.

This is a strange behavior.... even more strange that it worked at some point on my home computer (if I remember well, but I'm not totally sure about this as I constantly keep trying things on both the home comp and the USB drive)

Do the folders you're testing in have formats saved for them explicitly (in the top part of the list)? If so then those formats will always be used as they get priority.

(It could also be a format saved for a folder above the one you are viewing, if that format is set to apply to all sub-folders.)

Nope, and just in case of, I removed all infos stored about folders in the "Folder Options"->Remove->All Folders, but still, nothing changes!

Also, I just discovered that when I switch to a particular content type (manually, but I guess it's the same when it's being switched automatically) which is sorted by filetype (but it's the same for other sorting column), it keeps sorted by the previous sorting column, but it's only when switching; after, while browsing, the contents are sorted correctly.

Is the format lock turned on?

There's usually an icon for it in the status bar.

Thanks leo, the problem was there....

Most of the time, I use the double pane, and the lock folder icon isn't displayed in my configuration of the status bar for dual view, and the folder lock was set by default in my default layout.

Alright, everything works perfectly with the folder view unlocked.....

Still I post on this one topic because I already told a little about this on it.

So, with the content detection working his own way without user intervention, everything seems to work fine.
I just noticed that when I turn on manually to a content type which sorts things from a different column than the one previously used, the files and folders doesn't update their place in line (even if the arrow is on the good column).
I tried to click several times on the sorted column, the sorting toggles between reverse/direct order, but still on the column from the previous content type.
I need to sort the files from a different column and sort again for the column I want to make it work.

The problem is only when manually switching, and disappears when moving to another folder; to tell it another way, the problem only appears at the time of switching to another content type.

It's not a big problem, but maybe something to improve in next DOpus releases.... I know GPSoftware doesn't look all the topics, but i don't want to spam them with a lot of messages telling what I experienced as I guess they already have a lot of demands and that a lot are probably just a misuse of the app (like the folder content lock I did experienced)...

Anyways, thanks a lot leo, it's been just a week i'm registered on this forum, and your support is really helping solving a lot of problems really quickly! I hope you have a good deal with GPSoftware for all the help you provide to users
