Presets for Find

Presets for the Find function in Dopus

Sorry, I do not know if these are things that can be solved with buttons or if they are Feature requests?

I love the find window, which I access with F3. Its of immense fantastic help. However for the types of searches I do, I find the default settings require a few clicks too many and too much thinking. Each dropdown requires thinking and deciding - as anyone knows, thinking slows you down

For example:

  • I nearly always want a date search. However to get "today" or "last week" or 'last month" requires several steps, yet there could be a few default settings - sort of presets - to help. To get the last week for example, requires multiple steps. Clicking date -> after -> click the other dropdown -> find (Today) -> click that -> find a week ago from the calendar -> then go. It could be of broad utility to have 2-3 buttons as preset in the date box: today, the last week, the last month, or also perhaps the last year.
  • Its a similar issue with size. Some presets like >10 MB, >100 MB would help a lot.
  • If I use a restricted search (eg by date), then next time I open the find, I get those defaults and have forgotten to reset them. This is both good and bad. So can there perhaps be a "reset" button immediately over the top of the three option buttons (above date, time, size dropdowns)?

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to achieve these things?

..and thanks again for the worlds best utility!

If you switch to the Advanced tab, it's not as pretty and has a slight learning curve but might be closer to what you want.

You can set up whatever kind of find-filter you like there and then save it as a preset. When you come back you can select a preset from the drop-down and then fill in/modify the details for your exact search.

Thanks Leo, that provides a big part of what I need.

You are right that its not pretty. Untill you actually click on something, there is no sign that anything (in fact almost everything!) is actually a dropdown providing lots of options - its just plain text - tricksy. I saw that "Save" button before, but I could not imagine what I would want to save - now its clear. It does allow a few preset searches that are just what I want...
