(I have searched the FAQ and the site generally and have not found information that clarifies this - apologies if it is tucked away somewhere, I couldn't find it).
I want the folder tree NOT to expand and rush around all over the screen when I change from one tab to another in DO9. I have deselected all the "Expand..." settings in prefs, also checked the "Collapse non-selected branches" box, but when I move between tabs, the tree expands and relocates the cursor (often resulting in the tree disappearing off to the right when down among low level folders). I don't want this behaviour, I would like the tree to be decoupled from the currently selected folder (so that e.g. I can drag a file from within a folder to a different folder elsewhere in the tree - often on the network).
Is this possible, or am I barking up the wrong (groan) tree?
Next to the close button for the tree is a lock icon. Click that so it is locked and you should get what you want.
If you want to make that the default, use Settings -> Set as Default Lister (or if you are using a Layout or something else, re-save that layout so that when it is loaded the lock is in place).
Searching, I found this post, and just want to share that this Lock phenomenon works in reverse --
it also prevents a folder/subdirectory from changing to follow collapse of the Tree back to its shared root :
The Tool Tip hovered over the Folder Tree Lock says :
"Lock the Folder Tree to prevent it from changing to follow the source folder".
I was experiencing where a source/subdirectory in the file pane was collapsing to follow the tree,
whenever I would click the tree to collapse the tree back to the same root that the directory/source folder was on -
even with all the Prefs > Folder Tree > Options settings disallowed that I thought would prevent this.
... kinda cool to figure out something for myself for a change
