Preview pane not showing offline Solidworks file in OneDrive

I have just downloaded the trial, and it looked hopeful until I noticed that the preview pane does not show solidworks files images. Instead it shows a big solidworks icon for either the part, assy or dwg.

I found a post regarding this from 2014 (4 years ago) where they say they will be issuing a fix for it....4 years later no fix?

I am an engineer, use Solidworks daily so if this is not something Opus can do, they I would not be able to purchase it.

I am hoping that there is a quick solution or setting that I am overlooking.

Looking forward to feedback.

Below is the related post I found.

What do you see in the preview pane in File Explorer?

Jon,
Thanks for replying to my post. I have just realized that it shows previews of solidworks files anywhere on my computer except in my microsoft onedrive folder. This is odd indeed. I realized this by chance. I would still like to find a solution as all of my work files are in onedrive.

Any Ideas.

Does File Explorer do the same thing for files in the OneDrive folder?

Leo, yes it does. I only started using OneDrive a couple of days ago so thats why this has just become an issue. I do have a OneDrive business plan so I just put in a support ticket on this.

I have to say though, just browsing this Opus File Explorer, it looks like it a lot better than Windows File Exporer by far.

Are the files stored locally or are they in the cloud?

Both....I have them set to be local..

Do other types of file preview OK in the OneDrive folder (e.g. a jpeg)?

Yes, seems to be just Solidworks files.

I’d say it’s an issue with SolidWorks then (or whatever part of it is responsible for displaying the preview).

Perhaps they block it in OneDrive to avoid accidentally triggering a download of offline files (just a guess).

If you have a support plan with them it would be worth asking, especially as it happens in Explorer as well.

Well, I have a Microsoft OneDrive tech on the phone now. I will keep you posted. Typically they aren't much help thought :frowning:

I don't think it'd be anything to do with OneDrive itself.

Ok guys. Thanks for all of the feedback. It is Onedrive. It appears oneDrive (business version anyways) does not move any of the cached data associated with certain files over to one drive when you first set it up. They claim its to speed up the sync process. If I open a solidworks file that is in OneDrive, then close it, the preview shows up in the preview pane. I repeated this with several files. So its not Opus, or File Explorer...

I wanted to share the solution or at least the OneDrive procedure in case anyone else has this issue.

BTY...you all really replied to my post very quick. I appreciate that. Seem Opus has a good support forum. (I just started trial of Opus today.)
