Problem starting Directory Opus

I've just downloaded the new version of Directory Opus (version 9). However, I cannot get it running. After the installation, when I launch the program, it says "Directory Opus has encountered a program error and needs to close. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Pls find the attached screenshot.
What's the problem? Can someone help?

Thanks,

Samnang

Did you have Opus 8 installed before? There was a crash bug when converting some Opus 8 configurations but it was fixed a day or two after the initial 9.0 release, so if you've downloaded the installer in the last couple of days from the GPSoft website then it should be fixed.

If you got the installer from a mirror try grabbing the latest version from GPSoft. (It's still listed as 9.0.0.0 on their website as the bug didn't affect many people and the fix came out pretty quickly.)

If you've tried with the latest version and still get the crash, and are converting an Opus 8 config to Opus 9, please send your Opus 8 config backup (should be made during the install) to GPSoft so they can analyse it. In the mean time, if you erase your Opus 8 configuration then Opus 9 should start okay, albeit with the default settings.

If Opus 9 is the first version that you've installed on the machine then let us know and we'll suggest some things to investigate the problem.

I've done everything you suggested: uninstalled, reinstalled, delete all configuration, etc but it still doesn't work on my laptop. However, to my surprise, everything work fine on my PC. I get the evaluation version run perfectly on my PC.
So the problem is only with my laptop. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. My laptop is an ACER TravelMate 4100, Pentium M Centrino, RAM 512MB, 60GB Hard Disk.
Your assistance is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

What happens if you create an empty directory, say C:\Test, then past this into Start->Run:

"C:\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopus.exe" "C:\Test"

Does it still crash or does Opus open okay then?
