Question regarding file selection in lister

Hi folks,
DO has recently changed its behaviour when I select files in my lister. I am not sure what setting it changed to make this occur. I am also not sure what words to search for in finding an answer to this on the forum... as it's likely other people have asked the same thing.

What is happening is that when I click on files in the lister it selects them (the file name takes on a black background) AND if I select another file the other one remains selected. It is then very hard to unselect them. Clicking the file a second time does no unselect it. I have to basically click off to another folder in the tree and then return to where I was.

I am sure this is a FEATURE that I somehow turned on :open_mouth: . But I'd really like to turn it off.

With thanks,

Jonathan

You've probably stumbled into Power mode and just need to switch back to Details instead.

Thanks. I see what occurred now, and why I ended up there. Which brings up another question... if you don't mind?

I think I ended up in Power mode whilst I was trying to get DO to consistently display the way I like. Two things occur which drive me a bit nuts and which I've tried to prevent... but this is what landed me in Power Mode (by mistake).

The first is that despite my setting DO to NOT automatically detect the file types in a folder, it would in many folder revert to doing this, and I would end up seeing thumbnails even when perhaps just one or two files where images in a folder of many non-image files.

The other issue is that I have tried to get DO to always auto-adjust the column width when I open folders, so that the file/folder names are always in full view. I also tried to SAVE this setting to ALL FOLDERS but the next day or whenever (some time soon after -- but I am not sure if something in particular triggers this) it reverts back to not auto expanding the file/folder name column. :unamused:

I must be ignorant of something important about how to get DO to do what I would like. :frowning:

What am I not doing correctly?
I use DO mostly in the EXPLORER tab (the tab view mode options along the top). Then when I have pictures I wish to see as thumbnails (which is not always the case whilst looking at images) I would like to just click on the IMAGES tab along the top and thus switch to viewing the folder contents as thumbnails.

When I am in the EXPLORER mode:

  • I'd like to view ALL folders by default in the "NONE" or "DISABLED" Content Type. Simply because this Content Type mode seems to just list files in a normal way (as DETAILS mode) without trying to jump to picture and movie modes etc.
  • I'd like the folder/filename column to ALWAYS auto-adjust its width.

When in IMAGES mode (or viewer?) I'd like files to display as thumbnails.

I'd be very grateful if someone would kindly explain how I achieve this. Each time I set it up this way, and SAVE the Folder Options to ALL FOLDERS it doesn't stick to this way. :unamused:

With thanks,
Jonathan

I have perhaps figured it out. Hopefully. Although I did think this before but next time I turn on the computer it reverts to some other way.

Anyway... I'll post back here if the above mentioned issue comes back! :open_mouth:

With thanks,

Jonathan

Have you read the FAQ that's linked in my signature?

I read some FAQs a year or so ago. I'll read the one you've linked to now.
Cheers,
